Blue September:

"As men we’re not good at looking after our health, so it’s important to make Irish men aware of what they can do."

 (Lar Corbett, Champion Hurler)

Blue September is celebrated in USA, Australia, New Zealand, UK and this September it is coming to Ireland! Blue September is an international men’s health campaign that seeks to tackle the fact that men are far more likely to develop and die of cancer than women. It is a fun way of delivering a serious message. By painting faces blue, delivering simple health messages and fundraising for Irish cancer charities it is a way of breaking down barriers of discussing men’s health. As well as helping men reduce the risk of developing cancer by making better lifestyle choices the campaign seeks to raise funds for cancer care in Ireland.

One of the main objectives of the Dingle Marathon is to support our partner and associated charities in raising as much money as possible. We have free places designated each year, especially for this purpose.

Note that, none of the entrance fee goes directly to charity but donation and support is done by way of free places, discounts, marketing and PR support.

We encourage you to run for charity. Please contact any of the organizations listed for further details.

The Mercy University Hospital Foundation

'Working with the community to provide life saving, life changing support'

The Mercy University Hospital Foundation (CHY 17500) was established on St. Patrick's Day 2007 and is the fundraising body for the Mercy Hospital in Cork.

The Foundation works closely with the medical staff of the hospital to identify the most urgent needs within the hospital. Through our fundraising events and campaigns we raise funds to make it possible for the hospital to treat and care for patients with the most advanced equipment.

The Run for Life Campaign

The Foundation has made a commitment to purchase a number of vital and life saving pieces of equipment for the hospital during 2009 at a cost of €500,000.

This equipment will support staff in providing world class care to patients being diagnosed with cancers, to patients undergoing life changing surgery, to critically ill patients in our Intensive Care Unit and to our youngest patients being treated in the Children's Ward and The Leukaemia Unit.

Through the Run for Life Campaign we want to raise €100,000 over the next twelve months to enable us to purchase two life support machines / ventilators for our Intensive Care Unit. This five bedded unit provides care for critically ill patients requiring multi organ support and constant monitoring following major surgery.

For further information on our work and the support we are giving to The Mercy Hospital visit our website http://www.dinglemarathon.ie/www.mercyhospitalfoundation.ie or call us on (021) 4935479.

Camphill community Dingle
Camphill Communities of Ireland is part of an international charitable trust working with people with intellectual disabilities and other kinds of special needs.

In Camphill our residents share their home, spiritual and working lives with those who are motivated to meet others as individuals needing support and recognition for what they are, and not as carer and cared for in the conventional sense. Most of the people providing support to those with disabilities are volunteers, coming locally or from abroad.

Camphill is a way of life, where each person according to ability contributes what they can towards the well-being of the other.

Aware

Aware is a nationwide organisation providing emotional support and information to individuals who experience depression, and concerned family and friends. Depression is very common affecting more than 400,000 people in Ireland at any one time. It impacts thoughts, feelings, energy and interest in life, but is generally under-reported due to lack of recognition of symptoms, as well as the misunderstanding which still surrounds mental health issues. This prevents many people coming forward for help and support which could benefit them.
